The Holes of My Sweater

Since it's fall, I gotta open this post with a song lyric from Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood. I figure that everyone in the fashion and life blogging community loves fall...right?! Because sweaters and artsy photo opportunities with leaves:

See? Anyway, we do only have one month left of fall, but I feel that finally, the weather (at least in SoCal) is finally changing! Coming from Hawaii, these crunchy leaves are pretty intriguing. And the chilliness! Yesterday, it actually RAINED....rain in California. Wow. I didn't see it, but
everything outside was rainsoaked (if that isn't a word, it is now) and the sky was that clear sort of blue that accompanies rainy weather so nicely. It's too bad I didn't get pictures of the dewey roses. Another great thing about fall is pumpkin flavoring...on everything. I'm not super into it, but it's a nice seasonal flavor, like mint is for winter. My mom baked a pumpkin and chocolate pound cake, which was very seasonal.

Halloween has just passed, but that was spooky and nice...I did do the thing where you go out looking for grocery store candy that is handed out to children...trick or treating is painful for your feet. If you'd like to see my costume, that's
on instagram. I enjoyed visiting the popular costume shop,
Aahs!...

It featured typical cheesy halloween shop items, but was really big and had some interesting things, like this wall of masks!

Also in Halloween spirit, I tried black nails for the first time... and they're great. They make you look very "bad" and "rad" (mmmhmm I'm a cool kid). Plus, when thy cip, it doesn't look gross, it loos edgy. Black nails have a very teenage aesthetic.

Another typical fall staple for many people is a creepy movie...but I am not partial to horror in the least bit...however, the movie adaption of Gone Girl should be
sufficiently creepy and shocking. I loved this movie, which I'm sure you've heard a lot about. It's a longer movie with a really interesting plot, and an interesting greyish look throughout the whole movie.

When I think of my wife, I always think of her head. Like a child, I picture opening her skull, unspooling her brain and sifting through it, trying to catch and pin down her thoughts. What are you thinking, Amy? The question I’ve asked most often during our marriage, if not out loud, if not to the person who could answer. I suppose these questions storm cloud over every marriage: What are you thinking? How are you feeling? Who are you? What have we done to each other? What will we do?"

I shall now close this post with some lovely pics.
Some cheerful pumpkins from the grocery store, and my shoes with some adorable flowering weeds.

How has your fall/Autumn been?

Roman Holiday

Yep, I've finally watched an Audrey Hepburn movie! I, like everyone, love her style and classy look, but I've only just now watched somethhing of hers! I watched Roman Holiday and it was quite good...black and white too!

*fanpop*

But really, what I ought to adress this super long hiatus...I'm supposed to post once a week, and boy did that fail. But blame it on school!! I've had so many school outfits, and I do my hair much nicer now, and I need to photograph, but it's very hard to find time. Anyway, though I'm not really sure what I want with this blog...you know, how to improve, what direction I want, the style...I'm going to post more. My next post will be an art post! Yes, the art that I rarely post yet talk about a lot....and I really have been drawing a ton! So please "stay tuned", dear followers!

I do have something a bit funny to say...the title of this post goes with what I REALLY set out to talk about...my very recent trip to The Getty Villa! I have an application for an art program (maaayybeee I'll get in) that needs some submissions so I went to see this replica of a Roman villa sort of thing. It has some small gardens and a cafe as well as an artifact museum inside. The garden was super hot, but the photos came out with nice and clear lighting. There were so many tourists, a bit too many people milling about to be honest! The cafe has a great chocolate croissant, by the way!

Inside the actual museum...find the airplane!

The scene I was drawing

Fun fact: the statues were to represent the people that these secluded rich people could never meet (they were very protected and isolated)

Lots of mint:

What a Gem!

Annnddd lame title number two for this week makes its debut. Anyway, this is certainly a prevalent trend in stores and among hipsters...crystal gems! I bought a very cheap twelve dollar necklace from Brandy Melville and I love it. It goes with everything and shines in rainbow colors in the light. I love mystical things, like myth and magic, so crystals are totally cool. Mainly, I love their natural air and funkiness.

Also I did a weird doodle of crystals

I hope you have a nice day!

Long Time No Post!

Ayyyy cheesy titles! Anyway, hello! I haven't been posting weekly as my goal was supposed to be because of one thing...SCHOOL. Yup, I just moved to a new one sooo I've been getting adjusted. Aside from homework, I've been making some flower crowns and bows in my free time, as well as practicing art as usual. I've also started reading Heart of Darkness by Conrad. Oh! And hey, if you'd like, I've just made an Instagram called @eilaincaliland ....check it out fro selfies, ootd, photog, my art, and geeky cosplay(if you weren't aware, I am a total geek). So here are some photos of an outfit of mine...and a cutey pie little plant.

Colors Lines and Form

A small while ago I went to the LACMA art museum for the first time! I always loved art museums...ever since I was always taken to them on rainy days...I used to love Degas so much...I thought the graceful ballerinas were so inspiring! I love the peaceful space of museums and the idea of a place that celebrates beauty...and they often have great cafes! Nowadays some of my favorite tyoes of art are: illustration, pop surrealism, definately impressionism ( I dislike art with too many dark primaries), traditional paintings of fabulous Marie Antoinette style dresses, and art that uses lots of light and space. What's your favorite style of art?

These lightpoles were so fun to take pics with! So many other people were as well!

The hot and clear blue sky

I really liked how full of design the museum itself was! This is part of a spidery sculpture of black beams

From the amazing cafe...a moonpie! I most liked the brioche though, and they have amazing natural fruit sodas.

Spaghetti! Kids and older folks alike loved it! It was actually a total highlight, but the plastic was shockingly hard and fealt a bit like it was slapping you as you walked through!

Fun selfie!

This guy walked into my shot, but I think he made it better...this looks somehow symbolic...

There were so many delicious trucks and everyone looked so stylish!

Metropolis... It features whizzing cars that toddlers seemed transfixed by

My purchase from the very nice store! i-D magazine! With amazing Tavi and Petra Collins( who liked the photo on instagram!!!)

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu! She always inspires me to be as cute as can be! I love the kawaii japanese aesthetic so much!

Lovely~

I wish I could have taken pics of my favorite works but I always hate when people do that and get a bit in the way! It was really relaxing though and I saw a lot of great work...new artists, Van Gogh, and also some skillful classics! I hope you'll have a nice and inspired day~

Stripes and Sunshine

Hello again! I haven't posted quite do recently as I've been working on some art, like making inked watercolor designs, which I might post later, as well as reading... I finished Insurgent, and though I wasn't wowed much by Divergent, this one had a plot twist that was really original! So now I've gotten Allegiant and we shall see what I think of the series as a whole. Today after yoga...which is basically the only sort of exercise I'm interested in.. I'm not a sports person, I went up to a room in my building that has some nice open windows that let in streams of light...I think it was quite good for photos.

*squints at the sun*

My outfit:
Top- a sort of cotton-y, linen-y shirt from a French lady's clothing stand...funnily, a woman who designed sweaters remarked to me how much she liked the cut and design...as do I!
Shorts- Forever 21...so soft and easy for lounging about with a cute slouchy cut
Belt- Genius Outfitters
Cardigan- Gap... I've been layering this thing with everything basically
Flats: Old Navy
Headband- Claire's
Leggings- some random mini Macy's in a Maui hotel...

Awkward selfie

I've done a small diy, btw...repainting an old bulletin board of mine for a classier look

Ultrecht acrylic paint from Blick, layered practically 100(not really) times on the cork

Look, much better...a bit of the blue shines through and it looks a little shabby-chic

I hope you have a good day :)
