Marie, the Girl with the Most Cake?
I'm sure that many of us have watched Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, her 2006 picture on the life of the Versailles Queen. Filmed on location, he images are gorgeous and delicate with soft lighting, which I only recently got to witness when having an iTunes movie session! The style is gorgeous, of course, everyone decked in pastels....Kirsten Dunst even gets baby pink hair as Marie at one point!

Marie Antoinette seems daring and sultry, yet young and bored
My only issue with the movie was...lack of scripting, resulting in dragging pace. The few conversations are short
and whispered, and I'd like to hear more dialogue....of course, I've heard that this was a common complaint!
Interesting however is how the princess turned legendary
queen was portrayed. She was shown as, first, a young teen girl, bored and grudgingly moving from her home. She has blond hair worn down with a small ribbon, but once handed to France, she is done up to be the elegant Parisian princess, who must leave behind everything with a few tears in her eyes. She is judged and then accepted as she gets accustomed to life with her husband, who is also not that
into this royal life they've been thrust to. With not
much to do, Marie confidently does as she pleases and buys shoes and dresses and cakes and feathers, but all with an air of lazy teen fun, appearing as the decadent queen we know, different from the young girl at the start with her much plainer hairstyles ( plainer than pink updos, alright) Later though, politics show turmoil in France and towards the end
of the film, the nobles even shun her, as she is being held accountable for the distress of the people. She sticks with her husband and deals with the drama in Versailles as long
as can be stood. When danger is posed to the children, the leave in a carriage, but we all know what happens. The film shows that she really didn't say "Let them eat cake."

Marie Antoinette historically

Sofia agrees with the idea that Marie Antoinette was caught up in the circumstances of her life. I find her to be a very interesting historical figure!
In addition, nowadays, Marie Antoinette's stories have spawned ideas of an extremely decadent French character, representing lust and and lackadaisical enjoyment...she's
even a figure of cuteness in a sense(think macaroons, pastels, small french dogs, flowery dresses)
